“Looking for a fun night out with other adult Christian singles?”

Our singles ministry newly renamed CAFÉ (Christian Adult Fellowship Events) reaches beyond members and adherents of any one Church; out into the wider St. Thomas and London area community to provide a variety of fellowship events and times of study to promote social and spiritual growth to those who are single and desiring to walk with God.

The group was formed at Christmas of 1997 providentially; when I was asked to host two progressive dinners at my home by two different Christian singles groups in London, one from adherents of the North Park Community Church and the other from London Gospel Temple. I said yes, to both groups. But then immediately realized that it would crowd an already busy December schedule and it also meant that I would have to clean my house both before and after each event. I got back to each leader and asked if they would mind getting permission from the two respective churches to have the event on the same night. So instead of having two groups of about 30 each, I ended up with over 60 people. It saved me having to clean the house twice. But I had no idea how it would affect my personal life and lives of literally thousands of people over 20 years.

It has been a great opportunity to see people come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

At the beginning of the first night the two groups huddled in separate parts of the main floor, the Pentecostals near the fire place and North Park people in the living room. The food was in the kitchen near the middle and by the end of the night you couldn’t tell the groups apart. Many people were almost emotional when they thanked me, throughout the evening for opening my home for the event. “Never seen so many single Christians in one place” they repeated to me.

At the close of that first get together I was repeatedly thanked for opening my home. I was asked constantly if I would consider doing it again. Valentines 1998 was suggested and I agreed.

The Valentines event just from word of mouth attracted over 130 people. The next event saw almost 300 people. In 1999 over the period of one year we had well over 1,000 visitors.

Today the Canadian population is made up of about 52% Single Adults. Singles have said to me over the years how isolated they feel in churches in spite of the churches best efforts to be accommodating. Singles have found that the churches they attend pray for every people group; seniors, young people, families, but “there isn’t a prayer for singles”

Our contact list currently is just under 400. We have people coming to our annual Jamaica Jerk BBQ in July from as far away as Michigan and Oshawa. We have a weekly Volleyball game at Woodland Public School at 7:30 PM. Springbank Drive near Wonderland. CAFÉ has monthly brunches in the St. Thomas area, day trips, and camping events throughout the year.
