Youth for Christ London (YFC) held its’ annual banquet this year at the London Convention Centre on November 7. Over five hundred people were in attendance helping the ministry celebrate another fruitful year of reaching out to the young people in London.

The night was kept lively with the chamber music of “It’s a String Thing,” a London based quartet featuring violin, viola, and cello. YFC’s always-effervescent director James Coolidge told the story of the work, and magician Keith Brown amazed the crowd with his sleight of hand and mind reading abilities.

The theme of the YFC banquet this year was “Who Is My Neighbour?” This is taken from Luke 10:25-37, the parable of the Good Samaritan. While the parable is well known both in and out of Christian circles, Jesus emphasis is that a right understanding of the scripture requires not only knowledge of the scripture but a response and action as well. We are called to not only be hearers of the Word but doers as well.

Keynote speaker Joanne Goodwin brought the story of one of those neighbours. While Goodwin used a lot of self-deprecating humour to reach the audience, the heart-breaking story of her daughter’s struggles with addiction drove home the point that our neighbour in need can be anyone in our reach. Several “neighbours” who have been touched by YFC gave their stories as well.

While you may have missed out on an inspiring and encouraging night you have not lost the opportunity to be a part of YFC’s efforts to reach their neighbours.
